Ductile iron butterfly valves

Ductile iron butterfly valves are known for their higher ductility (hence the name), which allows them to better absorb movement or vibrations. While ductile iron offers good damping properties, it is not as effective as cast iron for applications involving loud or heavy machinery. This is because ductile iron does not provide as much soundproofing and is less durable under continuous vibration.

The butterfly valves made from ductile iron share a similar chemical composition with those made from gray iron. However, through a specialized casting process, the metallurgical structure of ductile iron is modified, enhancing its mechanical properties to match those of carbon steel. At the same time, it retains superior corrosion resistance in certain environments, making it an ideal material for butterfly valve bodies.
